Hi Shonner,

good to see someone from the TA-beginning is still here. Haven't checked
alt.games.total-annihil for quite some months now (have been too busy with
my little baby-girl).

Still playing TA?

I recently had a discussion with some dutch RTS-players on why you like a
game or not. Of course the normal games were mentioned: StarCraft en Red
Alert. Now I have the advantage of also having played golden oldies like
Dune 2 and Command & Conquer (I've been around quite some RTS-years) and the
newer games, yet still like TA (including TA:CC) the best. Seems TA is still
played by quite some people.

Of course, since I haven't been around, I do have some questions, some of
them might have been answered quite some times in this NG, but maybe not, I
do not have time to do some searching....
Is there some place the scene has went after Njoroge (I last mailed him
somewhere around the year 1999, he still owes me a game) left the scene and
after BoneYards has stopped, I mean: where to find some good old wars? Is
there now some kinda dedicated server application? Are there new (third
party) maps or units we must have (though I always have been a player using
only the standard TA + CC + official CaveDog units)?

I will surely look at your site, but that might be next week.

Looking forward to some online wars, but first I will have to find that TA
CD and check out where all updates & unitz & maps are available for
download.

Regards,

Da Stormtrooper Of Death

Well don't I feel honoured at being remembered in agta :)

I suppose 20 posts a day for 2 years makes your name hang around like a bad
smell. Apologies for not having the game I owe you, but I'd be more than
happy to play you now. I don't play anywhere near as much as I did, but I
occasionally keep my eye in.

As far ar the RTS scene goes, I left because I wanted something more. I
started with C&C (later starter) then moved to RA, then to a a modified
version of RA (you could do great things in the rules.ini file). After that
I went back to C&C because it was far superior to RA (the game that involved
building more heavy tanks than the opposition). After then I played TA.
Lots. Serious lots. I have hundreds and hundreds of Mbs or recorded games
I've played. I heard about TA: Kingdoms and I was excited about it. The
blizzard games, Dark Reign, Ground Control and other newer RTSs didn't
interest me (especially after playing the demos). I'd played so much ta
that I actually made the conscious decision to retire from it. It was
getting hard to find people that would actually put up a fight and I'd
started to use my "cookie cutting" strategies rather than develop new and
fancy stuff as I used to. Airlifting cans on GOW was always fun, as were
massive roach bombings and early nukes in 2on2 games on small maps - they
never expect that. I couldn't just stop playing such a very good game like
that, so I decided that I would move to TA:K. That game, as I'm sure you
all know, was utter pap and not worth toffee. After such a dissapointment I
stopped playing ta. I played a few games here and there after then, but I'm
not as good now as I was. I am seen to play warcraft3 now and then, but
frankly it's not as involved in ta, but ta's age finally got to me. My
computer screams out to be used graphically.

I don't play online anymore, but I am now part of the staff crew at
www.multiplay.co.uk and we organise big LANs. I'm know there as the TA
master and I run tournements for people. There are actually quite a few
guys that are really quite good at it still - it's nice to see. Next LAN is
in November and it'll be about 600 people and ppl have requested that there
be a TA tourny, so interest is there.

As far as RTS games go, I'm waiting patiently for a game that will rock the
scene as much as TA did. It was simply amazing and frankly still is.

Nice to be remembered, congrats on your kid ;)

Njoroge.

Well, maybe (if I can make some free time), I will re-install TA & see how
the scene is going on. Thanks for all info.

Hee Njoroge,

nice to see you still alive..... Well, I haven't been playing games for
quite some time: lack of time & interest. But since my baby girl is now
about 16 months old and the first 6 months were quite heavy, nobody can be
suprised about the lack of time ;)

I did try some other RTS or RTS kinda games, bought myself loads and loads
of games and hardware but never had the fun I had playing TA.

So that's why I ended up playing shooters like CounterStrike (next too
playing TA, I always have been a HalfLife fan). Even organize my own
lanparties once every 3 months. Never have been able to play TA there, lack
of interest here in the netherlands. When I did find some players knowing
the game, I found out I knew them all, played them all and defeated them
all.

Still I do wonder how my skill survived up to at this moment. So maybe I
will just have to visit one of your lans in the near future. That would be
nice, although I wouldn't like tossing my computer and all other stuff you
seem to need on a lan to England.

Well, maybe some future game will rejoin the old TA-community and we'll play
again. Time will tell....

Michael aka Da Stormtrooper Of Death (the name I used several years ago),
aka [T.L.G] Stormtrooper (my new clan-name)
