Sounds like you could have a bit of a problem with that. Metal levels for the whole map are for the whole map, so you'll get the same amount of metal if you plop an extractor down on a patch of grass in the Green/Lush tileset as in the Metal portion. You could try covering the metal portion with invisible metal patches... whatever you do, good luck.
